Cape Verde national team achieved a surprise after defeating its Ghana national team with two goals to one in the match that brought them together on Sunday evening in the opening of their campaign with the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
Cape Verdean player Jamiro Montero scored the lead goal for his team against Ghana in the 17th minute of the match. The goal came from an organized attack led by the Cape Verde team from the right front, and Montero followed the ball that bounced off the hand of the Black Stars goalkeeper.
Ghana and Cape Verde are in the second group, along with Egypt and Mozambique, where Cape Verde leads the group with 3 points, followed by Egypt and Mozambique, each with a point, and Ghana is in last place with no points.
