Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s stunning goal saw Fulham beat Rotherham 1-0 in the third round of the FA Cup at Craven Cottage.
Victories for Marco Silva’s men kept them in both cup competitions ahead of Fulham’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool later this month.
Rotherham had little to offer for their efforts, and their low defensive line called for pressure in the 20th minute.
De Cordova-Reid opened the scoring in stunning fashion in the 24th minute.
Rotherham’s attempt to play the ball out from the back ran into trouble when Harry Wilson’s pressure forced a turnover and De Cordova-Reid’s long-range shot went past Viktor Johansson into the top left corner.
A lethargic Rotherham rarely ventured into Fulham’s box, but Jordan Hugill’s offside goal from a Tom Eaves cross added to their frustration.
Fulham almost doubled their lead in the 42nd minute, but the post prevented Pereira from scoring.
The hosts succeeded in slowing the pace of the match and controlled the ball, but the match came back to life through Issa Diop in the 76th minute.
The centre-back picked up the ball and cut through Rotherham’s midfield before a brilliant combination with Timothy Castagne saw the tall defender’s first-time shot narrowly miss the target.
Fulham responded from a corner kick within five additional minutes, but Carlos Vinicius’ shot was blocked after Willian passed it to him.
