Spaniard Rafael Nadal made a successful return to the tennis courts after an absence of nearly a year due to injury, following his easy victory on Tuesday over Austrian Dominic Thiem 7-5, 6-1 in the first round of the Brisbane, Australian tournament.
Nadal had stayed away from competition since his loss in the second round of the Australian Open on January 18, 2023, due to a hip injury that forced him to undergo two surgeries and drop to 672nd in the world, as he is participating in Brisbane on a wild card.
