Kaizer Chiefs missed the chance to beat arch-rivals Orlando Pirates with a 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United last Saturday.
The initial noteworthy chance in the game belonged to Sekhukhune, with Yusuf Maart nearly
diverting a corner into his own net, but his header narrowly missed the target after 16 minutes.In the 18th minute, Frosler found himself unmarked in the box, but his attempt from a tight angle was thwarted by goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner. Meanwhile, on the opposing end, Babina Noko’s Ntiya-Ntiya struck the post with a powerful long-range shot in a frenetic two-minute period.
Bruce Bvuma was then forced into action when a rebound from his initial save off a Sekhukhune attempt almost trickled over the line, but the Chiefs’ keeper managed to scramble the ball away.
The pace of the game slowed, with the next notable chance coming in the 39th minute when Pule Mmodi’s shot was handled comfortably by Leaner.
However, it was the home side that broke the deadlock, courtesy of a splendid header by Elias Mokwana, capitalizing on a delightful cross by Kamohelo Mokotjo.
The second half witnessed fewer highlights, but Ranga Chivaviro injected excitement into the stadium with a superb strike in the 80th minute to restore parity.
Sekhukhune pressed for a late winner, and Chibuike Ohizu’s shot narrowly missed the target.
Ultimately, the draw seemed a fair outcome, leaving Chiefs in sixth place, one point adrift of Pirates and two behind Stellenbosch in third.
